What is Animal Chiropractic Care?
Chiropractic care is a manual therapy that works with the musculoskeletal system without the use of drugs or surgery. Just like in human medicine, chiropractic care can be used for non-drug pain relief through adjustment of spine and other joints, and can be used to correct all manner of joint problems. It involves a full exam, and sometimes includes an X-ray analysis or other tests prior to adjustment. It is a complementary branch of medicine to our other medical services at MetroPet, and we’re excited to offer it as an option.
What can pet chiropractic care do for your pet?
Chiropractic care can help with the flexibility and range of motion with joints and the spine. These help with down stream health, like balance, weight distribution, efficient movement, and can even have positive nervous system effects. These all lead to the overall health and well being of your pets.
What can cause a pet to need chiropractic care?
Joint injury or restriction can be caused by a number of things, including slips or falls. Sometimes the pet’s age or lifestyle can lead to injury. The birthing process, aging joints, collars/leashes, or problems with the living environment can all cause injury. The animal’s activities or job can lead to movements that may cause an injury. Police dogs, agility dogs, working dogs and hunting dogs can injure themselves in the course of their work, requiring chiropractic adjustment.
What kinds of problems can chiropractic care work on?
Besides the obvious joint problems like arthritis, vertebral disc issues and hip dysplasia, chiropractic care can help with a wide range of other issues. Urinary incontinence, chronic ear infections and anal gland issues can all be helped with proper chiropractic care.
